In floor radiant heat

An important upside to in-floor heating is that there are less things to work around (radiators, vents, etc.)  Professionals sometimes caution against installing radiant heating panels beneath hardwood or carpeting. However, details will be specific to products used.

Electric radiant heat is typically used as a secondary heat source. But, it can be used as a primary heat source, depending on the heat loss of the room. 

The radiant heating concept can also be used outdoors for snow and ice melting systems to keep driveways and walkways safe and free from snow and ice (wouldn't this be a luxury for the Pittsburgh winters?). But, radiant heating works in other areas, too. You could even use radiant heat to warm the surfaces around a bathtub or shower, create fogless mirrors, and even us it to create heated towel bars.
